Democrats Take Hypocrisy to a Whole New Level in Flak Over Wilson Outburst

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 3:45pm

The Democrats passed a resolution of disapproval against Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina on Tuesday, September 15, to chastise him for shouting that President Obama was a liar during the President’s address to a joint session of congress to push his massive government takeover of the U.S. health care system. According to the AP article about the vote, it is the first time in history that such measure was passed against a House member for speaking out during a presidential address.

Democrats are clearly trying to distract citizens from the truth of what Wilson said by focusing instead on their own selective outrage over such behavior. This is standard practice for someone who knows they have lost an argument to a better-prepared opponent who bothers to deal with facts. I see this kind of behavior all the time in the high school classes I teach. A student makes a comment (often a boneheaded one), and someone refutes it with cool logic, then the first student starts yelling or trying to change the subject, because they have no facts or logic with which to back up their original statement.

It is no surprise to see Democrats acting like immature school children, but the sheer audacity of Democrats to criticize how Republicans treat a Democrat president, after 8 years of them claiming President George W. Bush wasn’t even legitimately elected and that he lied when he used the same arguments they had been making for years under President Clinton to go to war in Iraq, is staggering. Not only that, there are numerous videos of Democrats booing George W. Bush’s State of the Union Speech in 2005, when he was trying to reform (actual reform, mind you – not a complete government takeover and dismantling of) social security. You can watch one of them here.

Keep in mind, from the video above, that Democrats were booing then-President Bush’s policy. It was a matter of opinion that what President Bush said was or was not worthy of booing, so while the Democrats actions were certainly in poor taste, there was nothing inherently wrong about them. Rep. Wilson, however, has been proven to be right on the substantive claim in his outburst. While the bills going through congress do claim to deny coverage for illegal aliens, Democrats have very purposefully voted down amendments to ensure strict enforcement of legal residency is verified before medical services are rendered. With no strict enforcement guidelines, there is absolutely no means for authorities to deny coverage to illegal aliens. It is inconceivable and disrespectful to the man to think President Obama did not know that his Democrat allies in the house had voted enforcement down. Hence, President Obama was lying when he said illegals would not be covered. Therefore – by substance, even if not by simple courtesy – Rep. Wilson was justified in his outburst.

One of the questions that comes to mind is what, exactly, qualifies as inappropriate behavior in the minds of Democrats. Apparently it is inappropriate for a Republican representative to call a Democrat president a liar, when in fact, he is lying. But it is perfectly acceptable behavior for a Democrat president to stand before 535 senators and representatives and the citizens of the country and lie to them. Democrats also think it is appropriate, as the video link above shows, for Democrat congressmen to boo a Republican president, just because they disagree with his policies. Hypocrisy, anyone?

But the ante is being raised even higher now. In promoting and talking about the resolution to rebuke Rep. Wilson, Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA), current leader of the Congressional Black Caucus, is claiming – surprise! – that Joe Wilson is racist. She is quoted in the above AP article as saying that people discussing Joe Wilson’s outburst “can’t sweep race under the rug — racism is still a factor and must be addressed.” Really? I thought Joe Wilson said “You lie!” not “Let’s lynch that lying n!@@er!” There’s a big difference, is there not?

Now, the king of brain-dead Democrats, the worst president in modern history, Jimmy Carter, has chimed in on the subject. In an article on CNN.com, President Carter claims that, simply put, anyone who disagrees with President Obama is racist. He goes on to accuse white people all over the country of thinking black people are simple incapable of being effective leaders of a country the size of the United States. Completely missing the point, he goes on to say that protesters carrying signs showing Obama with a Hitler-esque mustache are racists.

I’m thinking President Carter must have either been heavily medicated or simply slept through the previous 8 years, where George W. Bush was compared daily to Adolf Hitler. Check out the photo essays at zombietime.com for examples. Were the white people carrying these signs racist against the white George W. Bush? Probably. In my experience, white liberals tend to hate white people. But hating white people is not racist, liberals claim. In their minds, white people deserve to be hated.

President Carter was quoted also as saying, in reference to the images some protester held of Obama-Hitler, “Those kind of things are not just casual outcomes of a sincere debate on whether we should have a national program on health care. It’s deeper than that.” The implication here, in the context of the article, is that it’s racism. One can easily conclude that President Carter is suggesting that people are fighting against the president taking over the health care system, not because they are well-informed about how bad an idea it is, but simply because their deep-rooted racism keeps them from supporting a black president, no matter what his plans entail.

This is, of course, utter nonsense, and is easily discounted by the public outcry against President Bill Clinton’s attempt to take over the health care system in 1993. Here is a link to a speech Hillary Clinton gave in Seattle in 1994, when she was put in charge of coming up with a plan for a government takeover of health care by her husband’s administration. In the video, you can hear a fair amount of public outcry against the exact same policy that President Obama and the current Democrat congress are trying to sell. Keep in mind, those people booing in the video are in Seattle, an extremely liberal western city, not some southern Republican stronghold. And last I heard, Hillary Clinton is white, and so is her husband, President Bill Clinton. Based on their track record, Democrats would probably claim this video just shows right-wing extremists hating a woman in power. And of course, they were being racist to Bill Clinton, because he was our first “black president”, right?

The point here is that Democrats have not one iota of evidence that there is any racism involved in the outcry against Barack Obama and his policies, be they health care “reform”, cap and trade, or any other government spending program that threatens to increase the deficit even more while making life harder for everyday Americans. Americans have been, for the most part, against such policies for a long time. It doesn’t matter what color the president is who is trying to sell them. A bad idea is a bad idea, whether it is proposed by a black communist (President Obama) or a white philanderer (President Clinton).
